Yasmina Ramzy Arts Dancers
Tim Spronk — Lead Dancer
Tim is a dancer, choreographer, and dance instructor. He began training at the Alberta Ballet School and received his Bachelor of Arts at the York University as a Dance Major. Having since joined the Newton Moraes Dance Company, Tim has performed in Montreal, Toronto, Germany, and Brazil. He has danced with the Free Flow Dance Company, William Yong Dance Company, Kaeja d' Dance and is a prominent member of Arabesque Dance Company. Tim is a founding member of The Chimera Project and has appeared in all of it's productions. Tim's choreographic work was performed in fFida 1998 and 1999, ResiDance, and the Launch Pad.
Claudia — Lead Dancer
Claudia is a Toronto-based Bellydance artist, and currently a Lead Dancer and soloist with Arabesque Dance Company and Orchestra. In pursuit of exploring her Latin and Turkish roots, she began her formal training with the Arabesque Academy in 2005, and was immediately absorbed by the passion and beauty of Middle Eastern dance. Since then, she has performed with the company at several events and venues, such as Dance Ontario Dance Weekend, CNE, National Ballet of Canada, BMO Soccer Stadium, the Fleck Dance Theatre and the 2015 PanAm opening ceremonies. She is honoured to have partaken in four major Arabesque Dance Co. & Orchestra productions--EGYPT, NOOR,JAMRA and SAWAH. To enhance her experience and performance of Bellydance, she has also explored other dance and movement forms, such as ballet, Latin, hip-hop, mixed martial arts and capoeira. Claudia continues to expand her repertoire and develop her skills by participating in company training, and regularly performing at corporate, and private functions.
Shadia Saad — Lead Dancer
Shadia is a Toronto-based dance artist of Egyptian descent and a lead dancer in Arabesque Dance Company & Orchestra. Her professional training has been with Yasmina Ramzy and senior Arabesque instructors. Shadia's leading performances include the Pan Am Games Opening Ceremony with Cirque du Soleil, celebrity Vanessa Williams' wedding, the International Bellydance Conference of Canada, ADCO Canadian tour in Vancouver and Whitehorse and Arabesque productions NOOR, JAMRA and SAWAH at Fleck Dance Theatre. Shadia is a senior instructor at Arabesque Academy. As a solo artist, Shadia is highly recognized for her dynamic presence, audience engagement and Arab nuance.
Shari — Lead Dancer
Shari was first inspired to learn the art of Bellydance in 2004, and promptly began taking classes at Arabesque Academy with teachers Yasmina Ramzy, Mary Cabral and Denise Mireau. Since then, she has had the opportunity to explore a wider variety of Middle Eastern Dance styles, and learn from such teachers as Mahmoud Reda, Aida Nour, Sahra Saeeda, and Cassandra Shore. Through her post-graduate work in Sociology and Equity Studies, she developed a deeper appreciation for Bellydance as a valuable expression of femininity, power, and resistance. Shari has been a Teacher and Dance Artist with Arabesque since 2010, and has enjoyed performing regularly at various events around Toronto, including Arabesque's recent productions "Noor", "Jamra" and "Sawah"
Amy — Lead Dancer
Amy Leung is a Toronto based dance artist. As a lead dancer in Arabesque Dance Company & Orchestra, her highlight performances are with Cirque du Soleil in the Pan Am Opening Ceremony, on the Gala Stage of the International Bellydance Conference of Canada and in Arabesque productions of NOOR, JAMRA, and SAWAH at Fleck Dance Theatre. Amy's professional training is with Yasmina Ramzy having started with Judy Reynolds and Roula Said. In addition to her regular training, she has taken workshops with international artists including Dina, Fifi Abdou, Mahmoud Reda, Sahra Saeeda, Raqia Hassan and Luna of Cairo. Amy is a senior instructor at Arabesque Academy, rehearsal coach for the Arabesque Student Troupe and a sought out solo artist in the Toronto area known for her Arab nuance and emotional range.
Catherine Mais — Apprentice Dancer
At the tender age of six, Catherine began her formal dance training with classes in Ballet, Jazz and Modern dance. Later in life, she began an exploration of other dance forms which lead to the discovery of a lasting artistic passion for Middle Eastern dance. Catherine formed her Bellydance foundation through study with Toronto-based Bellydancer Shouhair. She then refined her art at the Arabesque Academy, studying with Melissa Gamal, Nikki Gentles, Sarah Brawley, Yzza and Yasmina Ramzy. Catherine strongly believes that dance provides a wonderful body practice for lifelong health and fitness, and satisfies our natural and universal desire to express creativity through movement. She is also an accomplished Flamenco dancer and a licensed instructor for the highly popular Zumba and Bellyfit fitness programs, and has brought the joy of dance to dozens of students throughout the Toronto area. Catherine is delighted to be a part of Arabesque Dance Company, where she works with world-class fellow dancers to perform the timeless art of Middle Eastern dance.
Leanna — Apprentice Dancer
Leanna began her dance career as a member of the elite all-star cheerleading team, Cheeerforce Tigers. Competing across North America with the the team for 3 years, she won countless titles including provincial, national and grand-championship titles. Since 2007, Leanna has dedicated her career to Raqs Sharqi performing throughout the GTA and beyond. She has studied with notable instructors such as Mahmoud Reda, Aida Nour, Yasmina Ramzy and many more. Leanna joined Arabesque Dance Company & Orchestra in 2013. With Arabesque, her performance highlights are appearing on TV series REIGN 2017, dancing on the International Stage at the CNE 2016, the Cirque du Soleil choreography in the Pan Am Games Opening Ceremony 2015, and the full scale production of SAWAH 2014. She has since started her own studio, BellaDance, in her hometown of Hamilton. Her passion and dedication to dance makes her a popular teacher at BellaDance. Leanna is also an ensemble and solo performer with the Arabesque Entertainment Agency.
Riviera — Apprentice Dancer
A Toronto based dance artist, Riviera is a member of the acclaimed Arabesque Dance Company & Orchestra. She began training in Middle Eastern dance at the age of 15. Riviera has studied extensively with Yasmina Ramzy, Melissa Gamal, and Sarita Gayle Alvarez as well as with renowned international artists such as Raqia Hassan, Saida, and Luna of Cairo. She performs regularly with Arabesque throughout Ontario including the prestigious Opening Ceremony of the Pan Am Games choreographed by Cirque du Soleil and Dance Ontario Dance Weekend at Fleck Dance Theatre. Celebrated for her fluid musicality, Riviera shares her passion and expertise as an instructor at Arabesque Academy.
Radi Daradzhanska — Apprentice Dancer
Hailing from Bulgaria, Radi is a now a member of Arabesque Dance Company and a teacher at Arabesque Academy as well as a soloist at Toronto events. Her dance training has been at Arabesque Academy, primarily under the tutelage of Yasmina Ramzy as well as its other instructors Melissa Gamal, Sarita, Nikki Gentles, Shari, and Amy Leung. Radi has also sought further training with masters in Europe and North and South America. She was a founding member of the Arabesque Student Troupe. In 2014, Radi was chosen to apprentice with Arabesque Dance Company and subsequently performed in Dance Ontario Dance Weekend, the Cirque du Soleil Pan Am Opening Ceremonies and Harbourfront.
Julie Middleton — Apprentice Dancer
Julie Middleton is a Hamilton based dance artist. Julie has studied various forms of dance for over thirty years, with her professional training is with Yasmina Ramzy, having started her studies with Alecia May. As an apprentice with the Arabesque Dance Company, Julie has had the opportunity to perform with Cirque du Soleil in the Pan Am Opening Ceremony and at The Fleck Dance Theatre for Dance Ontario Dance Weekend. To enhance her training, Julie has taken workshops with well known artists such as Luna of Cairo, Dr. George Sawa, Sashar Zarif and Robert Desrosiers. Julie is a teacher and manager with a Hamilton based school, BellyFlow Fitness, and is a sought after solo performer, known to her students and audiences to bring joy and light to her dancing.
Sharleen Rivero — Apprentice Dancer
Coming from a Middle-Eastern and Latin background, Sharleen Rivero has always been surrounded in dance. She started dancing at the age of five, and trained in various styles such as Ballet, Ballroom, Bellydancing, Contemporary, and Latin dances. She found her passion for Belly dancing at the tender age of seven when she was chosen to dance onstage alongside the Bellydancer at a party; it was then that she had decided to pursue her dreams of becoming a professional Bellydance artist. She danced and trained for various years following that night. She studied dance at York University in 2009 and 2010. After being deeply moved by the Arabesque production “OUM” in 2010, Sharleen soon joined Arabesque as a student and was instructed by Amy Leung and Melissa Gamal throughout the years. In 2014 she became a part of Arabesque Dance Company where she continues to train at an advanced level under the artistic direction of Yasmina Ramzy. She has also been featured in multiple performances across the GTA, including cultural events, shows at the Harbourfront Centre Stage with Arabesque Dance Academy, performing at private corporate events, and being an understudy for the opening ceremonies with Cirque du Soleil for the 2015 Pan/Para PanAm Games. Sharleen has completed various bellydance courses including the Master-Pro course. She has been coached and taken workshops with various artists such as Luna of Cairo, Jeff Dimitriou, Robert Desrosier, Modrite Dimza, and many more. Sharleen continues to study and practice her forms of dance.
Katy — Apprentice Dancer
Seduced by the richness of Middle Eastern Music and the beauty of the dance movements, Katy began taking Middle Eastern Dance classes in 2003 at Arabesque Academy with Yasmina Ramzy, Denise Mireau, Audra Simmons, Mary and Saba. In 2005, Katy joined the Rhythm of the Nile Dance Company, under the direction of Nada El Masriya. There, she discovered her passion for Egyptian Folkloric dance, realizing her dream to perform as a lead dancer in "Rhythm of the Nile", "Ayyam Zaman", and later in "Egyptian Panorama", and "El Toreth El Masryi",with the now named Egyptian Dance Company. A highlight of Katy’s career was having the honour to share the same stage as The Reda Troupe, when they performed in Toronto in 2012.
Katy has explored and studied other dance forms such as Ballet, Hip Hop, and Flamenco. She has also taken workshops with renowned artists, Fifi Abdo, Randa Kamal, Aida Nour, Doaa Salaam, Aziza of Montreal, Hannan Sultan, Nesrin Bahaa, Ehab Hassan, Tito Seif, Roula Said, Mohamed Shahin, Mohamed Salah, and Dr. George Sawa. Passing on her love of bellydance to her students at Egyptian Dance Academy, Katy worked as an instructor from 2008 to 2016. In November of 2016, Katy joined The Arabesque Dance Company, where she continues to grow as a dancer and performs at various events in Toronto such as Dance Ontario Dance Weekend, Bellydance Blossom Festival 2017, and Scrubs the City: Marrakech Fundraiser in support of SickKids Foundation.
Helene — Apprentice Dancer
Helene was introduced to dance at the age of 4. Through her childhood, she explored various types of dances such as ballet, samba and free jazz before discovering her true passion: Oriental Dance. Being part of the trio EdenKassar, Helene and her group travel as often as possible to train and perfect their art. In 2016 she won the 1st place in the rising star category of Egypt raqs in Oakville, in 2014, she won the 1st place at the Adwae Sharquyat Festival's Competition in Montreal, and the 2nd place in a duet of Heshk Beshk Torino's Competition in 2012. Presently, she is traveling frequently between Guadeloupe and Canada, in order to keep on working with the EdenKassar's creations as well as developing her personal style. She always loves to meet new dancers as well as different teachers.
Vanessa — Apprentice Dancer
At the age of 20, Vanessa has discovered her passion for dance back home in China and discovered the joy it brings to her. She devoted herself to dance day and night for 3 years before coming to Canada in 2014 where she began extensive training with Yasmina Ramzy. As she progressed through her studies, she has the chance to train with Mohamed Salah, Dr. Mohamed Geddawi, Amy Leung, Mohamed Haiek and Angelica Jordan. Once Vanessa became a member for the Arabesque Dance Company & Orchesta, she preformed regularly among festivals and events such as the CNE, Gay Pride, Dance Ontario Dance Weekend, Scrubs in the city and with Mohamed Salah at Belly Dance Blossom Festival etc.
